Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya was a massive success for the American folk-rock group The Dropkick Murphys who recorded it on their Meanest of Times album in 2007. They turn the song into an amazing wall of sound.

Tommy Makem and The Clancy Brothers performed the song at a celebratory dinner with President Kennedy in 1963. Here they introduce the song as the forerunner to the American song, When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again.

The English opera singer Benjamin Luxon explains songs like Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye are the reason he often turns to folk music. Here he performs a brilliant, heartfelt version of the song to the lone accompaniment of a banjo played by American folk singer Bill Crofut.
